In the week running up to Global Handwashing Day, the school nurse carried out fun handwashing games and experiments with almost all the students in the school. Experiments with glitter on the hands and balloons filled with confetti demonstrated the invisible spread of germs and stressed the importance of handwashing. On Global Handwashing Day itself, the nurse presented school assembly with a fun powerpoint to commemorate this important event. At the end of assembly, every child in the school was given a bar of soap (courtesy of Colgate-Palmolive) to celebrate 'Global Handwashing Day'. Children were shown and encouraged to wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, or the equivalent of singing the 'happy birthday' song. 'Team points' were given to those to be heard singing the 'happy birthday' song while washing their hands! These activities will continue throughout the year.
