Celebrating World Water Day by Creating Clean Hands

March 22, 2024

Every March 22 marks the celebration of World Water Day. This World Water Day emphasizes the need to address water scarcity, emphasizing the need for access to clean water globally. Water is an essential component for handwashing with soap – which in turn, is an essential practice for good health and development.

Hygiene promotion is the most cost-effective health intervention, yet it remains a neglected issue to many. This World Water Day, we want to not only emphasize the importance of clean water for poverty reduction, food scarcity, and peace and human rights, but we also want to emphasize the importance of water for key practices, such as hand hygiene.

In honor of World Water Day, we are launching our global youth contest, the Creating Clean Hands Contest. This contest aims to encourage youth (18 years or younger) to express their ideas and creativity by making a graphic promoting clean hands. The contest will be open for submissions until July 1 and is just one way to encourage youth to get involved with water and hygiene issues. Learn more about the contest here.
