Proper Handwashing Awareness for Primary Schools

Healing Heart Foundation a non-profit organization in Lagos, Nigeria that works to improve the living standards of women and children in rural areas and urban slums were in 2 Nursery and Primary Schools in Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos state to observe this years (2012) Global Handwashing Day.

The schools were Estate Nursery and Primary School and Local Government Nursery and Primary School, both with a population of over 735 pupils. The children were taught the need to practice proper handwashing before meals and after they visit the loo. A health officer from the health department of the local government helped demonstrate how to do this and they did same themselves. Soap tablets were also shared to the pupils for use at home. The awareness and demonstration was also witnessed by some members of the public.

The children were excited to learn about ways they can better protect themselves from very preventable diseases.
