People’s Oriented Program Implementation (POPI) has been observing the National Sanitation Months- October, 2014 at Teosree and Fatepur Union in Madan Upazila under Netrakona district in Bangladesh. The month-long program is paddling by the People’s Organizations (POs) through Natun Alo Project (New light Project). It is said that POPI is implementing Natun Alo Project in this Haor area to improve the livelihood status of 1000 targeted households by acquiring their rights & entitlements with dignity. Sanitation program is one of the basic components of Natun Alo project; so the National Sanitation Month is a great opportunity to publicize message relating to health care & personal hygiene to the mass community peoples. Natun Alo project took initiatives to observe this month by sort outing different types of programs in entire project area to aware about sanitation towards thousands of peoples in project & out of project. The whole month is furnished by colorful rally, cultural program, playing drama & demonstration, conference, open discussion, technical session and practical learning sessions about pure drinking water, hygiene and sanitation. It is a great inventiveness that POPI have already distributes 450 sanitary latrines and installed above 26 deep tube-wells to the communities to establish and enhance the water and sanitation condition ensuring the great quality. The program has been expanding not only in local communities but also in all of 27 pre-schools, 26 non formal education, 23 shonglap centre, 05 quality schools, 81 small groups, 09 secondary POs and all over the govt. and non govt. organizations including mosque, temple, church and other religious institutions. About 5500 population are participating in these programs directly and 40,000 population are benefited indirectly by this month-long campaign. It is noted that the project donor Stromme Foundation and ERIKS DEVELOPMENT PARTNER are also behind the program by providing their valuable suggestion and guidance time to time to make the program victorious and fruitful.
