A press conference on Global Handwashing Day was held at the press club in Islamabad, Pakistan. The event was widely attended by print/electronic media and other development partners.
A press conference on GHWD was held today (October 14th, 2014) at the press club Islamabad, Pakistan which was widely attended by print/electronic media and other development partners. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the convener of the Parliamentary task force on the Sustainable Development Goals was the chief speaker. Ms Aurangzeb urged government departments such as Health, Education, Local Government, Public Health & Engineering and other NGOs, the private sector, and community groups to use every opportunity to promote hand washing with soap, as an easy and critically effective way to prevent disease. Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb followed by comments of representatives from UNICEF, WSP, WaterAid, WSSCC, WHO, Plan Pakistan, RSPN and PIEDAR. It was urged that the concerned government line departments such as Health, Education, Local Government, Public Health & Engineering Department and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the private sector, and community groups must all use every opportunity to promote handwashing with soap, based on the lessons learned.
