Aligned to the ‘Leading the Blueprint’ 2025 Sustainability Goal, Dow supports the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) to promote the simple, healthy practice of handwashing. Each year October 15 marks global handwashing day, a time for awareness and education around the benefits of handwashing with soap. To mark this day for 2016 Dow is launching the When, How and Why of Handwashinginfographic. Designed to provide all the pertinent details around the fundamentals of handwashing, the infographic can be used as an educational tool to help advocate for this simple habit.
Washing hands is a proven way to prevent the spread of life-threatening diseases, especially among children. In fact, nearly 2 million children under the age of five die each year from infectious diseases. To spread the word about the importance of handwashing to help stop the spread of infectious disease, use the hashtag #GlobalHandWashingDay and join in on the conversation via Dow’s social media channels. Through simple awareness, together it is possible to make a difference.
Dow joined the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing as a resource contributor in 2014. The Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing is a coalition of international stakeholders who work explicitly to promote handwashing with soap and recognize hygiene as a pillar of international development and public health. Established in 2001, the PPPHW’s member organizations today include government agencies, multilateral organizations, corporations, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions.
Since 2011 Dow has also collaborated with Unilever to help develop ingredients for affordable, accessible soaps that can encourage handwashing behaviors. Lifebuoy™ soap from Unilever aims to make a difference by creating accessible soaps and promoting healthy habits. POLYOX™ Water Soluble Polymers from Dow enables the soap to be longer-lasting, more affordable and easier to lather.
