Global Handwashing Day 2021 Reaches Over 2 Billion People

February 28, 2022

We are excited to release the Global Handwashing Day 2021 Report here. Global Handwashing Day is a global advocacy day dedicated to celebrating and advocating for hand hygiene as an effective, affordable way to prevent diseases. Celebrated every October 15, it is an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands at critical times. Building on previous years, Global Handwashing Day 2021 provided a platform to not only raise awareness, but to also build commitment toward our future at hand.

The 2021 theme was “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together,” calling for coordinated action as we actively work toward universal hand hygiene. This unprecedented time provides a unique impetus to institutionalize hand hygiene as a fundamental component to health and safety. The learnings from the past year have emphasized the need for collective action to address the historic neglected of hand hygiene investments, policies, and programs once and for all. As we move forward in our efforts, our future is at hand.
