Afya Uzazi celebrates Global Handwashing Day 2017 in Kenya

AFYA Uzazi supported the Sub-County Public Health department in Kuresoi North to mark the Global Handwashing Day and use it to promote WASH in Pele Primary School (Kamara Ward) on 16th October 2017. The event brought together members of the school, surrounding community, local administration and community units to raise awareness on the importance of handwashing with soap at four critical times using processions, handwashing demonstrations and focused messages.

To make the day a success, Afya Uzazi worked with the sub-county to ensure meaningful involvement of the CHVs, schools and the community leaders in participating in the event. The Kuresoi SCHMT led the preparation for the event in discussion with the Afya Uzazi team. Afya Uzazi supported CHVs to demonstrate skills on how to wash hands with soap and train school children on making basic handwashing facilities in their schools and homes (Tippy taps). School children were guided in developing and writing WASH messages on the manila papers to be displayed in the venue as well as use in their homes after the events for messaging.
