October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. A provincial level event on Global Handwashing Day has been observed at Lahore by Plan International in collaboration with UNICEF, WaterAid, PHED, and AGAHE. This event was an opportunity to seek government support to provide access to handwashing facilities in schools, health care facilities and homes.
Promoting handwashing doesn’t just include providing hygiene facilities, soap, and water. Behavior change is a crucial component of making handwashing a habit. AGAHE also celebrated GHWD in Muzaffargarh to encourage school children and community people to adopt a habit of handwashing with soap. See pictures of this event here.
