On October 13, 2017 the Ministry of Pre-University Education and Literacy led Guinea’s national Global Handwashing Day celebrations in Kindia. Minister Ibrahima Kalil Konaté declared the commitment of the ministry to develop hygiene habits in learners throughout the country, noting that schools provide the ideal platform for habit formation. The Minister also announced the launch of the Fit for School program including daily group handwashing in schools, with technical assistance from the he Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). High level officials from the ministry, embassies, development partners and local organizations participated in the ceremonial handwashing.
