Organizers: DepEd-ARMM, DOH-ARMM, PhilHealth-ARMM, and the Australian Government-funded BEAM-ARMM Program through GIZ
On October 26, 2015, hundreds of students, teachers, schools heads, school nurses and staff of 59 government and non-government organizations gathered at the Bangsamoro People’s Complex in Cotabato City for the Global Handwashing Day Celebration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The celebration started with a “Walk for Clean Hands” led by DepEd-ARMM, DOH-ARMM, and the Australian Government-funded BEAM-ARMM Program through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit or GIZ. This was followed by a short program where participants pledged to promote handwashing as the most effective means of fighting diseases. A press conference concluded the celebration highlighting the importance of bi-annual deworming. A memorandum of agreement (MOA) between DepEd-ARMM, DOH-ARMM, and PhilHealth-ARMM was also signed. The MOA is aimed at strengthening the implementation of Essential Health Care Program (EHCP) in the region.
