Students, parents, teachers, headmasters, and others took part in Global Handwashing Day celebrations in 26 Government schools in Maddikera Mandal, Kurnool District.

As part of WASH in Schools (WinS), construction of handwashing stations have been taken up with the support of UNICEF HFO. As per the norms 1 tap is essential for every 20 children for washing hands. There are 4,700 children studying in 26 schools. As part of providing Hand wash stations, 235 taps are being provided in all the 26 schools. Awareness programmes are organized in schools on handwashing with soap at 4 critical times. The local NGO (SVK) is monitoring the handwashing with soap before Mid Day Meals programme. During Global Handwashing Day, 15th October, 2014, all the children have formed human chain and taken oath to wash their hands before handling food, after defecation & toilet use and they took pledge that they will spread the message that “CLEAN HANDS SAVE LIVES”.
