Global Handwashing Day 2015 celebrate at Dimla sub district under Nilphamari district of Bangladesh. Around 68000 students, community leaders, mothers and local people celebrate the event in 14 and 15 October 2015. RDRS Bangladesh has been sent technical support to them and KiK Textilien & Non-Food GmbH funded all events. With collaboration of KiK the project ‘Improving WatSan & Personal Hygiene in Dimla (IWPHD) events took place in 358 different places around Dimla. 64000 students of 208 Primary School and 40 secondary school attend in different session and learn to wash their hand properly from Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Z A Siddiki. Before this a inauguration session was conduct in Baburhat Model School on 14 October, where Head teacher of the school, Programme Coordinator of RDRS Bangladesh KM Rashedul Arefeen, Jogendro Nath Sen, Upazila Assistant Education Officer were present.
A campaign motor has been sent in 30 different place in Dimla sub-district which explore facts of food hygiene, hygiene behavior in home. They ware describe all facts with local song and drama. This year they ask every participant that is they wash their hand.
During the day observance in 15 October 2015, at 100 community group and 10 community base organization named Union Federation, around 4000 community leaders, mothers and local elites ware present and wash their hand. During their speech they ensured that they will wash their hand in proper time and manner.
Earlier with the help of KiK, RDRS Bangladesh have distributed specialized hand washing device with local technology in every school. After the event all mothers, teachers, elites and community leaders said that they will keep in touch to wash their hand and from now on everybody will ask each other when they meet if they wash their hand properly? By asking the question they hope that every person will wash their hand to say yes on short time.
To make this practice as a year round practice RDRS Bangladesh provide soap and some education materials in all schools of Dimla.
To ensure proper awareness, a three days long Sanitation Fair will be held where all ten union Federation, NGOs and Government officials will display their work about WaSH. In each night cultural programme will be arranged at the fair. A youth debate championship is already been running. Eight higher secondary school and four college will be fight in the final level championship which will be three days long and placed in the sanitation fair ground on 27-29 October 2015.
