October 9-15 has been declared as a Handwashing Week in the rural communities of Armenia (Geghasar, Arjut, Varser, Vaghashen, Gegharkunik). Children aged 4-6 have been taught the importance of handwashing with water and soap. Several meetings have been organized with parents to inform and educate them that keeping hands clean through improved hand hygiene is one of the most important steps they can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. The parents were told that if soap and water are unavailable, they can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol to clean hands. Overall 111 4-6 year old children have participated in the events. I am attaching some photos of the events. All the events have been organized under the motto of “Our hands, our future!”.
