Highlighting the importance of hand washing, Sukaar Foundation and WaterAid Pakistan have launched a campaign in different schools of Tharparkar desert to raise awareness of how handwashing can prevent infectious diseases. The organizers wish to instate widespread behavior change in favor of handwashing at key times.
Children and teachers of different schools of Tharparkar district stage rallies and delivered speeches to reinforce in everyone’s minds that the very simple act of washing hands with soap could save hundreds of thousands of children from sickness.
Iqbal Faqeer, a school teacher said,
“Celebration of hand washing week with children will create awareness regarding the importance of subject. Children play the role of change-agent in every society.Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities in school can have the positive impact on enrollment level, ratio of girls and boys attending the school. Encouraging behavior change with the participation children the burden of disease can be lifted”.
