Location: India
Participants: 5,000
Organization: United for Hope
United for Hope works in rural India in the areas of Water & Sanitation, Clean Energy, Education & Alternative Livelihood. Our vision embraces an environmentally sustainable approach in order to create the basic prerequisites for meeting the demands of dignified living conditions. Having recently built 50 sustainable toilets for poor families with the help of Sulabh International, we wanted to enhance our hygiene activities by celebrating Global Handwashing Day.
On October 15th, we worked in the village of Tirmasahun in Eastern Uttar Pradesh in the Kushingar district. The village has around 4000 inhabitants.
We educated villagers on the importance of hand washing through stories and games as well as going door to door to reach the home-bound. We also held sessions and distributed soap in schools . Finally, we held a press event with local government and media. We hope for regional television and newspaper coverage.
