UNICEF celebrates Global Handwashing Day 2017 in Kiribati

Global Handwashing Day is celebrated nationwide in Kiribati with specific activities on national and local level. Expected number participants: 20,000; and beneficiaries: 100,000.

Activities will include:

  • Advocacy: Adoption of national handwashing policy, drafted by  Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, and partners; endorsed by the cabinet. 
  • Awareness: The best and most suitable handwashing station competition in South Tarawa, organised by Ministry of Public Works, MoE, MoH, communities, health centers and UNICEF. 
  • Awareness and behavior change: Media and community campaign, daily radio spots on national radio for the month October, community march and roadshow in various islands. Organised by the respective ministries, communities, private sector partners, and UNICEF.
