UNICEF is supporting the Lao PDR Ministry of Education and Sports to celebrate the Global Handwashing Day in the capital of Vientiane. Joining in the celebration in is the Vice Minister of Education and Sports, the Australian Ambassador to Lao PDR, and UNICEF Rep Ms. Hongwei Gao. Activities include group handwashing, cultural performances and handwashing games. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education is sending out a notice to all Provincial Education Departments to inform schools to celebrate Global Handwashing Day using their own available resources. In addition to the celebration of this important global event, UNICEF will be organizing a symbolic handover ceremony of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities supported by the Government of Australia through UNICEF in 15 provinces. The handover represents the great achievement of the joint effort so far in supporting the WASH in School Programme in Lao PDR, reaching 527 primary schools in 15 provinces.
