UNICEF celebrated Global Handwashing Day in all schools throughout South Sudan

UNICEF South Sudan celebrated Global Handwashing Day in all schools throughout South Sudan by having pupils wash hands with soap and clean water and school head/teachers emphasizing on the importance of washing hands to prevent diseases. The main event took place in Juba with more than 4,500 children and 500 adults from WASH partners, donors, teachers & PTA organizations. Activities included drama, songs, poetry, debate, news reading, speeches and dances on the the importance of handwashing. Ongoing activities include social media campaign, radio talk shows, radio spots, and a handwashing video which will be aired on local TV stations and shared on UNICEF South Sudan social media channels. The localized theme for South Sudan is ‘Handwashing with soap keeps Cholera away from you and your family,’ as the country is grappling with a Cholera outbreak.
