For the fourth consecutive year, United Purpose and PZ Cussons will jointly facilitate Nigeria’s largest Global Handwashing Day Campaign. We have already engaged thousands of school-children and reached millions of people in Nigeria and globally – and will continue to share the vitally important message of handwashing with soap with many more. From 3rd to 5th October, more than 3000 school children in Cross River and Benue States will be directly engaged. They will be entertained by exclusively recorded songs, and empowered as ‘Hygiene Heroes’ – handwashing promoters trained to inspire their schools, families to make handwashing a habit. Some Hygiene Heroes will be empowered to take their message to other schools in their region in the month of October.
Moreover, on 13th October more than 200 schools will participate in a mass handwashing activity – with an estimated 50,000 children washing their hands. Finally, the campaign will reach its climax on 14th October at a major event in Lagos with our celebrity Ambassadors – where schools will compete against each other for fantastic prizes and have the chance to perform with their musical heroes. We will work with some of Nigeria’s top entertainers, keynote speakers and VIP guests to generate awareness on handwashing. Different (social) media channels will be dominated by the topic of handwashing during the month of October. Our campaign anthem, ‘’Wash Your Hands O’’ by Sunny Neji, will be heard all across Nigeria and beyond!
