My name is Carolyn Moore, and I joined the Global Handwashing Partnership as Secretariat Director on May 8th. I am delighted to be part of this dynamic, powerful partnership and help further its important shared vision—for handwashing with soap at critical times to be universally recognized, promoted, and practiced.
My background is in public health, community development, and partnership building. Most recently, I served as Acting Director for the mPowering Frontline Health Workers partnership, where I focused on bringing together multi-sectoral partners in digital health and health worker training. I completed my master’s in Public Health in Health Education and Communication, and Maternal and Child Health, at Tulane University; and started my career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kyrgyz Republic. Throughout my work in global health, I’ve seen how collaboration is critical to making lasting change—and how a diverse group of partners can do more together than any organization can do alone.
Handwashing with soap protects the health of individuals and communities, and contributes to better and more equitable, educational and economic opportunities. It is a powerful action, but one that remains inaccessible for too many people. Through our work in advocacy and knowledge management, the Partnership is working to make handwashing’s potential a reality. I’m thrilled to be joining this effort.
We have some exciting developments ahead, including new technical resources, an advocacy toolkit, the Partnership’s annual think tank, and Global Handwashing Day. I am particularly excited to engage with the Partnership’s Steering Committee, members, and networks. The Secretariat team would love to hear from you, so please contact us with your questions and ideas!
