Hand Hygiene Acceleration Framework Tool

The Hand Hygiene Acceleration Framework Tool facilitates understanding of national action towards the achievement of Universal Hand Hygiene. This follows the Hand Hygiene for All Initiative call in June 2020 for governments to lead the acceleration of progress on hand hygiene in the lead up to 2030.

Designed for use at national and subnational levels, the HHAFT both tracks the process a country has undergone to arrive at their hand hygiene for all roadmaps or strategies and assesses the quality of the content of strategies and plans.

The tool offers sector actors a framework for understanding country action to-date and identifying areas for future work and has potential for use in ongoing monitoring efforts.

Furthermore, by providing a common framework for understanding the components of national action, the tool can facilitate cross-country learning on potential success factors in driving progress on hand hygiene, as well as to inform global actors where to invest support for commonly encountered barriers.

The HHAFT was developed by UNICEF, WHO and WaterAid.  An outline of the HHAFT is provided in a short promotional document here. The HHAFT is available in English, French, Russian, and Spanish.
