Feed the Children, Government officials, WESNET National Coordinator Chrispin Bokho, traditional leaders and development partners joined community members that included pupils from different schools gathered at Traditional Authority Makanjira in Salima District to celebrate this year’s commemoration of Global Handwashing Day.
The day was celebrated under the theme “My hands, my future” and included speeches, traditional dances, poems, drama and songs highlighting the importance of handwashing with soap. Feed the Children displayed three types of handwashing facilities and linked hand washing and general hygiene to nutrition. Community Promoter, and Facilitators ably explained to the guest of honor on how hygiene contributes to nutrition of all members in a household.
Feed the Children Promoters and Facilitators demonstrated their innovative self-made handwashing facilities to the guests of honour of Global Handwashing Day. Not only did the Promoters show their creativity in designing original handwashing facilities, they also demonstrated their knowledge in improving hygiene at household level.
Through its Tiwalere (ii) Project Feed the Children intends to improve adoption of essential hygiene actions and increased access to safe water among 298, 608 households with pregnant women and children under 5 years of age by June 2021 among other key result areas.
