On October 15th, the Namwala Town Council mobilized the community in celebration of Global Handwashing Day, which brought together World Vision, UNICEF, the Government of the Republic of Zambia’s Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, as well as civil society partners, and civic and traditional leaders. 1,500 community members and students from five schools attended events.
In addition, organizers reached out to 21 local chiefs, representing a population of over 1,000,000 people, who disseminated key messages around handwashing with soap to prevent oral-fecal contamination and the critical moments to wash hands.
